According to the DA XI Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS), the reported losses include ₱72.17 million in damage based on input costs and ₱477.29 million in production losses based on farmgate prices.
The report listed rice, corn, high-value crops, and other agricultural commodities among those affected by the prolonged dry conditions.
To mitigate the impact of El Niño, DA XI has outlined an action plan with a proposed budget of ₱729.11 million. Of this amount, ₱40.41 million is allocated for preparatory activities, ₱678.73 million for maximizing production in areas less vulnerable to drought, and ₱9.97 million for protecting production in vulnerable areas.
The agency is also preparing additional interventions under its 2026 Quick Response Fund to assist moisture-stress-affected farmers and sustain agricultural production.
These include the provision of seeds, fertilizers, soil ameliorants, agricultural supplies, irrigation equipment, and livestock support, as well as crop pest management and cloud-seeding operations.
Some interventions remain under procurement, while other proposed assistance packages are still awaiting funding.
The measures aim to help farmers cope with drought conditions, minimize further agricultural losses, and maintain food production in Davao Region. BuyMaps
A total of 6,205 farmers have been affected by the El Niño phenomenon in the Davao Region, with Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental, and Davao del Sur among the hardest-hit areas.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region XI is focusing on maintaining and increasing the region’s food supply amid the effects of the dry spell.
This was disclosed by Joedel Leliza, alternate focal person of the DA-11 Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday morning, October 29. BuyMaps
Leliza said the agency continues to prioritize food supply as the agricultural sector deals with the impact of El Niño.
The DA is monitoring the situation as the dry conditions continue to pose challenges to farmers and agricultural production across the region.
