Police intensifies manhunt in Mati School stabbing incident

Hot pursuit operations are now underway to locate the suspect in a stabbing incident that happened inside a school in Mati City, Davao Oriental.

The incident took place  around 3 p. m on July 17, 2025, at Mati National Comprehensive High School in Barangay Sainz. The suspect, identified as  “Ivar”, 20 years old and a Grade 11 student, reportedly stabbed two minors using an ice pick.

The victims were  “Marjon”, 16, an out-of-school youth, and  “Alvin”, 15, a student of the same school. Based on the investigation, “Marjon” was visiting the school for its Foundation Day when the suspect, who is said to be part of a gang named  ELEKTA, saw him and considered him an enemy.

The suspect chased him and stabbed him several times inside a Grade 10 classroom. After that, he pointed the ice pick at other students to stop them from helping, and stabbed “Alvin” before running away.

Both minors were taken to the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center for treatment.

The Police Regional Office 11 under the supervision of Brigadier General Joseph Arguelles assures the public that efforts are ongoing to find and arrest the suspect.

 The police are working closely with school officials and the local government to ensure the safety of students and the community.

“We are asking for the public’s help. If you have any information about the location of alias “Ivar,” please report it to the nearest police station or contact Mati City Police Station,” PRO 11 said. 

The police also assured  that all information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect  will be kept confidential.
