Guesting at Wednesday’s AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Major Mark Anthony Tito, spokesman of 10th ID said there had been reports that there were individuals claiming to be an NPA asking for money from some residents in Davao de Oro.
Tito reminded the public to remain vigilant and not to fall for similar extortion schemes by unscrupulous individuals who may just be posing as members of rebel groups.
According to Tito, they are still verifying the veracity of these reports, as he urged those individuals who will be victimized by these scams to report immediately to authorities.
“Kung nakadawat mo ug ani nga mga text nga gipangayuan mo, please report immediately to us or sa nearest camps and Philippine National Police, or sa Kapitan, Mayor, Barangay Tanods,” Tito said.
Tito, meanwhile, said that since the declaration of the region as insurgency-free in October last year, the region’s peace and order is relatively calm.
“As far as Region 11 is concerned, Davao Region is still insurgency free, wala tay any violent incidents initiated by the NPA,” Tito said.
Tito said the 10th ID is now in the stability and support operations phase following the declaration of an insurgency free region to ensure the prevention of resurgence.
“This is why we are prioritizing the delivery of services to all organized Peoples Organizations whose members were former members of the NPA,” Tito said.
