Anti-cybercrime response team to operate in Davao Oriental

DAVAO CITY- More cybercrimes will be addressed soon in Davao Oriental as the Regional Cybercrime Unit 11 (RACU 11) of the Philippine National Police will open an office in the province this month of May.

Guesting in Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao on Monday (May 8), RACU 11 chief Police Colonel Ricardo Punzalan said that their provincial office will be located at the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office in City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

“Two organic personnel will be assigned, and we are hoping to have six detailed services from the provincial police for augmentation,” PCol Punzalan said.

The Provincial Cyber Response Team will serve as the enforcement and implementing group of any pertinent laws on cybercrime.

The provincial response team has yet to have a hotline number, said the police official.

According to RACU 11 data, there are only two cases on online libel that were reported from January 1, 2023.

Since 2021, a total of 10 cybercrime cases have been lodged. These are six online libel cases, two online scam cases, one online threat case, and one case in violation of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act.

The anti-cybercrime office will be the first provincial response team in the region, out of Davao City.

Col Punzalan also revealed that they are also targeting to open this year an office in the province of Davao del Sur. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
