Speaking at the Kapihan sa PIA on Monday at the DLPC office, Rodger Velasco, president and chief operating officer of DLPC said among its major initiatives is the provision of Project e.Lab (Electrical Laboratory) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and TESDA.
He said the project helps enhance school-based learning by providing TechVoc facilities to public high schools for the Electrical Installation & Maintenance course.
Apart from this, Velasco said the company also helped build skills through Project BEST (Basic Electrician Skills Training) aimed to create opportunities for target beneficiaries to become TESDA-certified electricians and prepare them for livelihood.
BEST is a community-based skills training project on Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) Course in partnership with TESDA and the barangays.
Davao Light, a subsidiary of AboitizPower, a power distribution utility company that has been powering communities and building the nation for 76 years.
It is the third largest privately-owned electric distribution utility in the country which provides services for 2 cities and 3 municipalities in the Davao Region with a total land area coverage of 3,561 sq. km.
According to Velasco, Davao Light does not rest on its community projects but also has the passion to care for the environment through its Aboitiz Cleanergy Park Project, an 8-hectare biodiversity preserve located at the heart of Davao City and a known nesting ground of the critically endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtles as well as a haven of more than 100 bird species.
The park promotes the conservation of the pawikan and through a partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the LGU-Davao City, the park was identified as a Pawikan Rescue Center in the Davao Region.
Currently, since it was launched in 2014, they have already released more than 7,000 pawikan hatchlings, he said.
“Currently, we have 6 rescued pawikans under our care and soon we will be releasing them,” he said.
Velasco emphasized that DLPC’s commitment is not just to their customers but also to the community they serve.
“We innovate different projects to contribute to making Davao a sustainable city and help address the communities’ needs where many can benefit,” he said.
