Panaboan wins battle of young NMs in Tugbok online youth chess tourney grand finals

DAVAO CITY—A 12-year-old National Master from Panabo City, Davao del Norte emerged as champion in the grand finals of the online youth chess tournament that offers P18,000 total cash prizes to the winners in Los Amigos, Tugbok this city on November 27.

NM Christian Gian Karlo Arca bested fellow young NMS Ivan Travis Cu and Oshrie James Reyes and other top young chessers to win the crown and the bragging rights as one of the best young wood pushers today.

Arca scored seven points after nine rounds to win the crown and the top prize of P3000.

The Panaboan also ruled the semifinals of the same tournament on November 13.

The chess tournament for all Filipino players born from 2004 onwards is organized by Dr. Marlonsky chess center, a chess school located in Los Amigos, Tugbok District in Davao City. 

The tournament is sponsored by Dr. Malon Sayson Jr. and will be facilitated by tournament director Arena Grandmaster Irwin A. Aton. (By Romeo Braceros Jr.)
