“Nacocompromise ang security nila kasi nagpapaturo sila sa internet cafes, nalalaman ang kanilang passwords, so nagiging source siya ng fraud (Their security is compromised because they would ask for help at the internet cafes, these people would learn their passwords it becomes a source for fraud),” Greta Quayle SSS regional communications officer said during her guesting at the Kapehan sa Dabaw media forum held July 11 at SM City Davao Annex.
Although no case had been reported in Davao, there were reported cases of fraud particularly in Luzon where fraudsters had hacked into SSS member accounts and were able to register and claim benefits. These fraudsters were also able to paste their bank details during the registration.
“It’s not bad to seek help but make sure na after kayo magpatulong, palitan ninyo ang password (After you get help make sure you change your passwords),” Quayle advised to members so they can secure their accounts online.
She said the SSS website is very secure, the only weak link is when the accounts of members are compromised thru phishing, where cybercriminals or fraudsters obtain information such as passwords from the members.
Quayle advised members who want to seek help on online filing to go to the SSS office where there are dedicated computers and personnel to help the members file their claims or register online which is a pre-requisite for filing.
“May mga e-center personnel na mag-assist doon sa kanila,” Quayle said the e-center personnel would assist SSS members who are not computer or internet literate.
“Pwede na rin nila gawin doon (SSS office) ang transaction (They can do their online transactions in the SSS office),” Quayle said.
The office is also open for members who have no internet connectivity in their areas.
She said with digitization of SSS they are expecting 40 computers dedicated for filing and registration.
The SSS requires online mandatory filing of nearly all benefits except for death and disability claims which are still undergoing process of digitization.
“As of now ongoing yung ating process to make the death claim online para mapadali nalang ang pagclaim, maybe one of these days maging online na tayo totally,” Quayle said. (PIA/RG Alama)
