PBBM’s visit to Bucana Bridge purely “inspection not political”-MinDA chair

Secretary Leo Tereso Magno, chairperson of Mindanao Development Authority made a clarification about the recent visit of President Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s at P3.2 billion China-grant Bucana Bridge project in Davao City.

During Friday's (Dec. 5) Business Insights Forum at NCCC VP, Magno said that the President’s visit was purely an inspection, not an inauguration nor a political event.

"If you listen to  what the President said, he praised all those responsible  for the project. He praised the Chinese contractors, the technology that was used. Nakakalungkot lang na minsan napopolitika, it was never a political event, it was an inspection, " Magno said.

He said it was the chief executive  doing his job to inspect a major project that helps uplift the lives  of the Filipino people.

The  project is expected to boost economic activity in Davao City and across Mindanao as this will significantly ease traffic congestion in downtown Davao that offers  a faster, safer, and more efficient route between Barangays 76-A Bucana and Matina Aplaya.

The Bucana Bridge, an integral component of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road, is being constructed by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office – Bridges Management Cluster (UPMO-BMC), with China Road and Bridge Corporation as the civil works contractor.

The bridge will connect the eastern and western coastal areas of the city, which are currently separated by the Davao River.

The bridge is expected to open to motorists on December 15, 2025.
