This initiative marked the second batch of school transport units distributed under Libreng Sakay para sa edukasyon program, aimed at easing the daily commute of public school students, especially those in remote or underserved barangays.
The brand-new school service vehicles were formally handed over to selected barangay captains and local officials representing the First, Second, and Third Districts of Davao City. Each district received three units, which will be deployed to identified communities based on need, population, and accessibility.
In her message, January Duterte emphasized the importance of the program in supporting not only education but also safety and family welfare:
“Nasabtan namo nga daghang ginikanan ang naglisod sa paghatag og pamasahe o luwas nga transportasyon para sa ilang mga anak. Pinaagi niining mga school service vehicles, among tinguha nga mapagaan ang ilang kahimtang aron ang atong mga kabatan-onan makapokus sa ilang pag-eskwela, makaabot sa tunghaan nga luwas, ug makapauli nga walay kabalaka.”
The Libreng Sakay program was first launched in January 2025 and has already benefited hundreds of students across Davao City. With the rollout of this second batch of school service vehicles, the following barangays are set to benefit:
• First District: Barangay Ma-a, Talomo Proper, and Bago Gallera
• Second District: Barangay Pandaitan, San Isidro, and Mudiang
• Third District: Barangay Malamba, Malagos, and Inayangan
Barangay leaders expressed their gratitude to Liga President January Duterte for prioritizing the welfare of students. They also committed to maintaining the vehicles properly and ensuring that operations follow safety standards and proper scheduling.
The initiative is part of the broader push of the Davao City government to promote inclusive public service and reinforce the city’s commitment to education, youth development, and grassroots empowerment.
