DCPO to deploy 5K cops on election day

Colonel Hansel Marantan, chief of the Davao City Police Office said the DCPO will deploy close to 5,000 policemen to secure the midterm elections on May 12.

Marantan in a recent interview said they also have back up coming from the National Support Unit such as Special Action Force and Regional Mobile Force, including warm bodies from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

" As I understand, the AFP suspended several aggressive operations to focus on  the upcoming elections," Marantan said. He said they already defined all places where they can insert security personnel wherein some of these are going to provide security measures for the election paraphernalia.

" We are here to protect the more than one million voting population of Davao City," he said.

According to Marantan, Davao City is still in the  green category as there are no election related incidents that have happened  in the city so far.

Marantan assures the public that the police officers are ready to render their duties as the midterm election is nearing.

Marantan, meanwhile, said that a substantial number of PNP personnel are also deployed to provide security for all the campaign sorties of political rivals in the city.
