Talomo Police Station reported the arrest took place at 7 p. m Thursday, February 13, in Barangay 37-D, Quezon Boulevard, Davao City.
The suspect, alias Joan Dela Cruz Catilla, 45, resident of Libra Street, Bahayang Pag-asa, Molino I, Bacoor, Cavite was arrested through a warrant issued by Honorable Helen B. Constantino-Balbuena, Presiding Judge of the 4th Judicial Region, RTC Branch 128, Dasmariñas City, Cavite, on June 28, 2024, for Criminal Case No. DC-16072-24 (Qualified Theft), with a recommended bail of P40,000.00.
Investigations reveal that Cabajar’s modus operandi involved posing as a housekeeper, using falsified identification to secure employment.
After gaining the trust of her employers through diligent work, she would abscond with valuables shortly thereafter. This pattern was repeated across various locations, particularly in Calabarzon region, leaving a trail of victims.
Talomo Police Station Commander Major Genesis Oriel said they have identified multiple instances where the suspect employed this tactic, victimizing numerous households, especially in Luzon.
“ We are coordinating with the court to determine if there are other warrants of arrest issued against her or to any other fictitious names she used. Her arrest is a significant step towards justice for those affected, “ he said.
Oriel advises the public to exercise caution when hiring domestic workers and to report any suspicious behavior promptly.
This arrest, he said, underscores their commitment to safeguarding our community against such deceitful practices.
The accused is currently detained at Talomo Police Station for documentation and further legal proceedings.
Arrangements are also underway for her transfer to the jurisdiction of the originating court.
