Female NPA leader dies in Davao de Oro clash

DAVAO CITY: A female leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) Central Committee was killed by the government troops in intensive military operation in Davao de Oro on Christmas eve.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division based in Mawab, Davao de Oro identified the fatality as Anna Sandra Reyes alias Kaye.

According to Tito, Reyes is a member of CPP-NPA Central Committee and Secretary of the Regional White Area Committee under Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).

She was killed by the pursuing troops of 5th Scout Ranger Company, 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion , and the 1001st Infantry Brigade that took place in the hinterland barangay of Davao de Oro.

Reyes was among the 35 members of the elected Central Committee and was one of the facilitators during the distribution of ballots and accounting in an election conducted by the central committee, POLITBURO held in Samar, Leyte in 2016.

She was also part of the group’s Executive Committee with the late Julius Giron Alias Nars, Benito Tiamzon, and wife Wilma Tiamzon.

Seized after the 30-minute clash were various war materials such as M653, M203 Grenade Launcher; SAR Galil Rifle; magazines; ammunition; cellular phones; and assorted medical paraphernalia, and medicines.

Police record showed that Reyes has two standing criminal cases for attempted murder and murder with no bail before the regional court here.

10th ID Commander Major General Ernesto C Torres Jr applauded the troops for their dedication in pursuing the terrorist group under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee operating in Davao De Oro.

“The 10th Infantry Division will continue to safeguard communities in its area of responsibility against the remaining remnants of SMRC in Southern Mindanao,” Torres said.

Agila Troopers will continue to hit the ground running to pursue Communist NPA Terrorists disrupting peace gains in the area,” Torres said.

Torres further said that the death of Reyes is considered a victory for the Filipino people and also a loss of another promising fellow Filipino only deceived and used by the CPP-NPA-NDF to its ambitious yet dying quest, now rejected by the masses.

The soldiers remained on high alert anticipating the 53rd Founding Anniversary of the CPP-NPA on December 26.
