P3-M smuggled cigarettes seized in Davao checkpoint

DAVAO CITY- Authorities seized P3- million worth of smuggled cigarettes from suspect Renne Kuddamon Jamiri on Friday (Feb. 9) at a checkpoint in Brgy. Lascon, Calinan District, this city.

Task Force Davao (TFD) spokesman Major John Louie Dema-ala said they arrested Kuddamon who is a resident of Brgy. Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City.

 Dema-ala said the hot items were seized after a team of policemen and soldiers flagged down a red Mazda close van  travelling towards the city.

The vehicle  with Kuddamon was found loaded with 120 boxes containing a total of 6,000 reams of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated market value of P3 million.

TFD Commander Colonel Darren Comia thanked Davaoeños to have tipped the authorities about the the illegal items. 

He said this is proof that the City Government's Culture of Security campaign has paid off. 

“It’s a testament that the cooperation and support of the dabawenyos plays a vital role in the maintenance of peace, security and order in the City", Comia said.

The suspect, the vehicle, and contraband were turned over to the concerned agency for the filing of charges.
