Ex-Army, driver nabbed with several guns, bullets

DAVAO CITY- Police operatives on Friday (Nov. 3) arrested an ex-member of the Philippine Army and a driver for alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Davao City Police Office reported that Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 11, Davao City Field Unit alongside 1st City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) and Bajada Police Station launched CIDG's OPLAN Paglalansag Omega or the campaign against loose firearms through buy-bust at Buhangin here.

DCPO identified the arrested suspect as Greg Habagat Bacus, 49 years old and a resident of Brgy. Astorga, Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur. He was a member of the Philippine Army and went awol (absence without leave).
Also arrested is Bacus’ driver, Amanto Edza Ali of Buluan Maguindanao.

They were caught in the act of selling firearms. They received the buy-bust money from the operating team who acted as poseur buyer at 8:55 Friday morning at a gasoline station in Kilometer 5, Buhangin in this city.

Seized from the suspects were an M-14 US Rifle 7.62 MM, a black M-14 US Rifle 7.62 MM, an ARMSCOR 9mm pistol, various magazines, and bullets.
Authorities also confiscated cellular phones, boodle money, and a Ford Ranger car being used in their transactions.

The suspects are now detained at Bajada Police Station to face charges of violating Republic Act 10591 and Batas Pambansa 881 or Omnibus Election Code.
