During the first anniversary of an Insurgency-free Davao Region on Friday, (Oct. 27), Magno said that the requests of the former rebels are very simple and that is to feel the efforts of the government.
"A commitment from the Office of the President, a commitment from the OPAMINE, a commitment as the CORDS (Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security). We will try our best to give you your rights so that you will no longer go back to lawlessness and continue to join us in our nation building," Magno said addressing the former rebels present during the event.
Magno said that the government, military, and the community need to help each other to find the common ground for peace and development.
"Achieving peace is not just the job of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police. But by the society as a whole. Each of us has a role to play and I hope we will not forget that," he said in a report from OPAMINE.
Indigenous Political Structure Executive Council member Tumanuron Boyson Anib Sr. meanwhile asked forgiveness for the atrocities that they have committed.
Anib said that he regret joining the armed conflict and the lives lost because of the wrong information that they were provided with before.
Government officials, military officers, and members of the community also signed a pledge to support and sustain peace in Davao Region.
Also present at the event were Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, Mawab Mayor Ruperto S. Gonzaga, Police Region 11 Office director PBGen Alden Delvo, and Deputy Commander Eastern Mindanano Command Brig. Gen Consolito Yecla.
