Soldiers undergo training for Barangay, SK elections

DAVAO CITY– Some members of the AFP’s 1001st Brigade who will be deployed for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30 underwent a pre-election seminar held at 60th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Camp Morgia, Dona Andrea, Asuncion, Davao del Norte on October 12.

The 1001st Brigade reported that the seminar was designed to empower the troops on their duties and responsibilities once deployed.

Lawyer Norliza M. Mamukid, Provincial Election Supervisor of Davao del Norte gave a comprehensive lecture emphasizing the pivotal role of soldiers during the election. She highlighted the provisions, prohibitions, and restrictions pertinent to election duties of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as a COMELEC deputized agency.

The seminar aims to guarantee the conduct of free, honest, peaceful and credible elections, according to Captain Robert Escalona, 1001st Brigade spokesman.

The participants were given identification cards (ID) which they will wear while performing election duties.

Brigadier General Babac, 1001st commander in a statement assures safe, accurate, and fair elections.

“We stand as the guardians of peace and order, ensuring that the democratic process will proceed smoothly and without disruption,” he said.

Babac further said the troops' obligation will remain apolitical and fair. 

“As peacekeepers, we must remain impartial and steadfast in our duty. 

Uphold the principles of fairness and justice, and ensure that the elections are conducted in an environment free from intimidation and coercion,” Babac said.
