PLDT fiber expands to Samal Island

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) has brought its fiber home services to the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), which has a growing population and is one of the top tourism destinations in Mindanao.

In a statement, the local government of IGACOS welcomed this development. “The arrival of PLDT fiber in IGACOS will be beneficial to both residents and tourists. This is also very timely. We really need the internet connection at our new city hall and for the local college we are running,” said IGACOS City Administrator Nieljun Esdrelon.

PLDT said expanding its mobile networks to Samal Island formed part of the company’s commitment to the government’s overall digitalization thrust which is to narrow the digital divide.

It further said that the rollout of  PLDT fiber on the island is also expected to boost Smart's mobile network services in the area and support the connectivity needs of businesses and enterprises of all sizes on the island.

“We are thrilled with the launching of PLDT Home Fiber in the Island Garden City of Samal. This marks a momentous occasion, as we bring fast and reliable internet connectivity to the island--enabling entertainment needs of residents and tourists alike, and powering hybrid workplaces,” said George Carmelo Clemente, Vismin Head for PLDT Home Sales. He said bringing the benefits of internet to more communities is one of the key priorities of PLDT/Smart.

PLDT’s relentless push to provide connectivity for all is aligned with the group’s long-standing commitment to help the Philippines attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) particularly SDG No. 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, PLDT’s statement reads.
