Toril police chief sacked after househelper’s disappearance

DAVAO CITY- Toril Police Station commander Major Michael Uyanguren was immediately relieved from post after his house helper went missing on August 29, 2023.

Uyanguren was identified by the mother of the victim as the employer of the missing househelper named Justine May Saldua, 21 years old, a resident of Barangay Upper Ulip, Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

The incident became public after Justine’s parents brought the matter to public attention during Senator Raffy Tulfo’s program aired last September 28.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Colonel Alberto Lupaz acted promptly by forming a team to investigate the circumstances sorrounding the person who was reportedly missing.

Based on the statement released by DCPO on Monday afternoon (Oct. 2), it said that the relief of Uyanguren was done to ensure that there are no factors that may influence the investigation process.

“DCPO assures everyone that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and impartially with the utmost intention of ensuring the safety of the persons involved and that due process is observed,” the statement said.

According to DCPO spokesman Captain Hazel Tuazon, the creation of the investigating team led by Lupaz was ordered by Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 director Brigadier General Alden Delvo.

Uyanguren when interviewed in Tulfo’s program said Justine allegedly left their house at Barangay Lobogan, Toril District this city and accordingly returned to her hometown in Monkayo. In fact, he said Justine was accompanied by her daughter outside their house to get a taxi ride.
