PNP to elected officials : Renew, surrender expired guns

The Davao City Police has called on all elected government officials to renew and or surrender expired firearms until October 18, 2023, a day before the start of the campaign for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BAKE) on October 19.

Colonel Alberto Lupaz, chief of DCPO said that government elected officials should heed the call of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to avoid search and seizure.

He said no-renewal of expired firearms falls under the regulations of Republic Act (R.A)10591, which encompasses a comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition, along with prescribed penalties for violations.

Lupaz said it is of utmost importance to adhere to the directive to prevent possible charges that can be filed against individuals who fail to comply.

According to him, such charges could potentially pose challenges to their candidacy in the upcoming 2023 BSKE.

The DCPO will continue to strengthen its campaign against unrenewed firearms, he said.
