Davaoeno swimming star finishes 4th in World Para Games Manchester

DAVAO CITY—Veteran Davaoeo paralympic swimming star Ernie Gawilan almost won a bronze medal for the Philippines in the 2023 Manchester World Para Swimming Championship last August 2.

Gawilan finished fourth in the 400m freestyle s7 competition participated in by the world's top paralympic swimmers.

Only the top three winners get a medal.

Gawilan won a gold medal in Cambodia in the ASEAN Paralympic Games this year.

Gawilan dominated the men’s 400-meter freestyle S7 final with a time of 4:58.78.

Gawilan, born with no legs and an incomplete arm due to an attempted abortion and poor prenatal healthcare, is happy and proud of his medal performance in the tournament. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
