“DCPO strongly condemns, in the strongest terms, these heinous acts that violently took the lives of not one but two of our dedicated personnel, leaving two others injured who heroically responded to the call,” Lupaz said in a statement he reads during a press conference Thursday noontime, July 27.
These police officers identified as Chief Master Sergeant Tito Lague and Corporal Mark Anthony Corsino were hacked and shot by some members of the Matigsalug tribe while performing their duty.
The courageous men and women of the Davao City Police have suffered an unimaginable loss-their lives taken while safeguarding fellow citizens, according to Lupaz.
“Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen heroes who are enduring profound grief during this appalling time. We stand united with you in solidarity, and we promise to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for our fallen comrades,” Lupaz said.
"When an officer loses their life, it not only affects their organization but all of us in uniform,” he said.
The two injured policemen are Corporal Ken Leo Diango Gumanoy and the mobile patrol driver Donald Ombrete.
One of the suspects, Benao Maanib Landas was also killed by the responding team from the Calinan Police Station while the other named Rico Masacay was arrested.
Lupaz said the incident serves as a solemn reminder of the immense risks and sacrifices the police officers make daily to ensure the safety and security of the community.
DCPO also extends financial assistance to the families of fallen police officers.
