Following a three-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ASEAN Age Group Championships were conducted, with the Philippines placing second.

Three hundred twenty-eight players representing 15 nations participated in the competition, including Brunei, China, FIDE (Russia), Indonesia, India, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The 21st ASEAN Age Group Championships featured the same classical, fast, and blitz tournaments for boys and girls aged 8 to under 20 as in the first 20 editions. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
