No casualties in Davao City flooding

DAVAO CITY- City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head, Alfredo Baloran said no one died nor injured due to street flooding incidents in various areas caused by heavy downpour, Monday (June 5) night towards dawn Saturday (June 6 ).

Baloran in a report from the City Information Office said they received no tragic reports related to the incident.

Based on the data from the CDRRMO, the flooded streets included those in the Buhangin and Poblacion districts.

The affected streets in Buhangin Districts are Laverna hills, C.P. Garcia Road, Barangay Cabantian; the main road of NHA Buhangin in  Buhangin Proper includingTalisay Street, Watusi Street,  New San Isidro, Sandawa, Spring Valley, Underpass, Diversion Road, Carpenter Street in Barangay Leon Garcia Sr.; and Old San Isidro. Buhangin Proper.

Floodings in the Poblacion District also hit R. Magsaysay Avenue corner Suazo Street, Barangay 30-D, Pelayo Street corner Bonifacio Street, Barangay 3-A; Torres Street corner Jacinto Street, Barangay 11-B; V. Mapa Street, Barangay 12-B; and J.P. Laurel Street corner Sta. Ana Avenue, Barangay 30-C.

Meanwhile, four canal overflows were also recorded in Barangay San Antonio particularly in Purok YC, Purok Freedom, Purok West Saint Anthony, and Purok Sarphil in Barangay Wilfredo Aquino.

According to Baloran, a family of seven from New San Isidro, Barangay Buhangin Proper sought shelter at the Barangay Gym as the water level reached waist deep in their house. They were able to return to their house when the water subsided.

Baloran said his office alongside City Engineer’s Office, Ancillary Services Unit, and the Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator will conduct a joint re-assessment of the cause of the recent flooding.
