“I don’t want us to regress or go back to our previous situation We do not want the efforts of those who helped these institutions or did their efforts para mubalik lang ta sa wala (that we’d go back to nothing), so what we can do is either we maintain or improve from what we are now,” Mayor Duterte said.
The full council meeting of RPOC-XI held yesterday (May 15) at the Arcadia Event Center in Matina, Davao City was the first RPOC meeting which Mayor Sebastian Duterte attended as the council chair. He was appointed RPOC-XI chairperson on March 14 of this year.
During his message to the council, he reminded members that his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte had declared war on drugs and criminality and that war is not just a mere figure of speech.
It is the literal meaning of war against drugs and criminality and I intend as RPOC chair to continue that platform,” Mayor Duterte said.
Police and Army officials in the region meanwhile described the peace and order of Davao Region as generally peaceful.
Total crime incidents in the region have gone down by 17.49% in the period January to April of 2023 year as compared to the same period in 2022. However, non-index crimes or violations of special laws have gone up. This is attributed to increase police operations to enforce such laws.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-XI chief P/ Brig. General Alden Delvo said that upon assumption into office he has noticed the rising incidents of rape cases in Davao Region, which has exceeded the number of theft cases.
“It is very alarming so I have called up several sectors of society to address this and we have come up with a solution and Davao City is the pet project of this one,” P/Brig. Gen. Delvo said during the RPOC meeting. (PIA/RG Alama)
