The medical missions which were held on February 4 and 5, 2022 in Barangay 8-A and 76-A respectively, were able to cater to almost 500 residents who came for free medical consultation, as well as for free medicines for common diseases among the elderly such as hypertension and diabetes and multivitamins, cough syrups and antipyretics for the children.
Councilor Ocampo, who spearheaded the medical missions, is thankful to the Church of Jesus Christ for sponsoring the medicines for the 2-day medical service, the first ever to be organized by his office. “We hope and pray that this partnership will continue in order to serve the communities better, especially with their medical needs,” he added.
Barangay Captain Ariel Lagmay of 8-A Lower Madapo, is very much thankful to the organizers for making the medical mission in their barangay possible. He said that his constituents are so happy and satisfied with the assistance that was extended to them.
Meanwhile, Princess Rose Talinis, mother of two, is grateful for the free doctor’s consultation and medicines. According to her, she will be able to use the money intended for their medical needs to buy food for the family instead. She hopes that the initiative will continue because it greatly benefits the community.
The donation was coursed through Latter-day Saint (LDS) Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to Phillip Tan, a priesthood leader of the Church, “our purpose is to relieve suffering, foster self-reliance and look for opportunities for service because we follow the admonition of Jesus Christ to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, take in the stranger, clothe the naked and visit the sick and afflicted.”
LDS Charities sponsor relief and development projects in 195 countries and territories and give assistance without regard to race, religious affiliation, or nationality. Aid is based on the core principles of personal responsibility, community support, self-reliance, and sustainability.
Largely run with volunteer labor, it operates both independently and in cooperation with other charitable organizations and governments.
