Based on the record provided to News Fort, of the 394,531 calls from January to December 2022, only 48,316 emergency calls were recorded while 346,215 were non -emergency.
Emergency calls include catered, uncatered, cancelled, and referred calls. Follow-up inquiries, nuisance calls, test calls, and other calls are categorized as non-emergency calls.
According to the report, uncatered calls are calls that other agencies have already catered to the emergency, the caller has indicated that they will transport the patient (for medical calls) , patients did not pass the triage( for medical calls and Covid-19 related). The patient is referred to teleconsultation, flash alarms (cor law enforcement).
Cancelled calls are calls that the caller has cancelled the call without any notice and did not call regarding the incident again. Referred calls are calls that were referred to other agencies to address the emergency (not from the operational units) while follow-up calls mean that the caller called again to ask for an update on the response.
City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office operations head Lyndon Leovic Ancajas encouraged the public to call 911 only when emergency situations are legitimate and life-threatening.
Ancajas urged people to be more responsible in using emergency hotline numbers.
“We remind everyone to only call 911 when directly involved in an emergency,” he said in an interview with News Fort.
He said these bogus or prank calls cause disruption in their operations and clog Central 911’s network making it difficult for its call center to actually receive legitimate emergency calls.
