50 OSYs to undergo free sports training

The Davao City Sports and Development Division (SSD) is aiming to train 50 out-of-school youths (OSYs) from selected barangays and search for potential athletes among them.

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera said that under the Aktibo Dabawenyo grassroots program, selected OSYs are given chance to be trained in athletics, skateboarding, football, dance sport, sepak takraw, swimming, chess, basketball, and arnis.

“Gi-invite namo ang mga barangays and gi-enganyo namo ang ilang OSYs that this is for free, how this is going to work, of course, atong coaches and trainers sa amoang teams who were given medals and recognitions-- sila ang mag conduct sa training, it’s not us. We make sure that we will be able to select certain potential athletes from that level who hopefully would become representatives in an upcoming event as soon as they qualify,” Aportadera said in a report from the City Information Office.

He said that for swimming, participants from the Badjau community at Km. 11 Sasa are specially selected.

Aktibo Dabawenyo, a health and wellness program of the city, was previously coursed and aired as a segment of the Byaheng DO30 weekly news program.

The program resumes following the lifting of the restrictions face-to-face  sports due to Covid-19 in the selected communities .

The said program will start in the first quarter of 2023.
