During last Thursday's DSA (Davao Sportswriters Association) Forum at the SM City Davao Annex, Dennes Cubelo and Farahjean Murcia stated that this event will serve as a warm-up for some of the Snakehead Swimming Club's members who will compete in the upcoming Ironman and Iron Kids Triathlon competitions here in the city next year.
We will start the open water fun swim (non-competition) at 5:30 AM, which will last about four hours. The fastest swimmers can complete the course in about an hour, and about two hours the slowest. Paradise Island and the neighboring Isla Beach Resort have been designated as waypoints in Samal, while the Panacan region in Davao will serve as the farthest waypoint. To make the swimmers visible to the marshals at all times and to act as flotation devices in the event of an emergency, special colored buoys will be attached to them, according to Cubelo.
With a P1,500 registration fee (including food during the socials and a full sublimation souvenir shirt/jersey), the Cross Channel Swim—the club's eleventh open water event—is expected to draw about 52 athletes, according to Murcia. The open water course will put swimmers of all ages—from 7 to 12 years old to 15 to 59 years old to the test.
We will have our club Christmas party and gathering after the event, and about eight kids will participate, according to Murcia.
t he Snakehead Swimming Club practices and training sessions will be held at the Felis Resort at Matina Aplaya and Garden Oases here in Davao City. The club comprises multi-sport athletes and enthusiasts, including swimmers and triathlon enthusiasts. The club also provides beginner, intermediate, competitive, and open-water swimming classes.
