Ex-NPA rebels in Davao del Sur get gov’t aid

Up to 16 former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) received cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development 11 Sustainable Livelihood Program at the Governor’s Office, Davao del Sur on November 29.

The Philippine Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion in its report said that the former NPA rebels had surrendered to the 39th Infantry Battalion in 2021. 

Each beneficiary got P20,000 financial aid.

The beneficiaries are programmed to undergo deradicalization and mainstreaming intervention from Davao Sur Tupad Pangako Program.

The assistance was handed over by DSWD Focal Person Sheryl Tan together with Geraldine S Lano, Provincial Director of provincial social worker and development (PSWD), Davao del Sur and Lawyer Herbert Gonzales, Davao del Sur Provincial Administrator.

The recipients will also get cash assistance through the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) under the Task Force Balik Loob of the National Task Force-Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) where they will benefit various assistance within the program package.
