Eight public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers in Davao Region have tested positive for illegal drug use during the implementation of random drug testing for drivers under "Oplan Harabas" of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday (Oct.28).

Noli Dimaandal, the information officer of PDEA 11, told News Fort that eight were found positive out of the 500 drivers and conductors who took the drug test.

The on-the spot drug testing was conducted at Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT), Gaisano Mall of Davao Transport Terminal in Davao City, Digos City New Satellite Bus Terminal in Digos City, Davao del Sur, and Tagum City Overland Transport Integrated Terminal (TOTIT) in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Oplan Harabas is a nationwide random drug testing initiative PDEA, Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Local Government Units, and the Philippine National Police.

The program aims to ensure the safety and security of commuters during the long weekend for All Saints Day and All Souls Day and to prevent drug perpetrators who will take advantage of the influx of passengers in Davao Region.

The licenses of the eight drivers were confiscated and will be returned after they finish the rehabilitation program.

The PDEA also conducted the Preventive Education and Community Involvement Section (PECIS) and distributed information education communication (I.E.C) materials during Oplan Harabas.

The PDEA, meanwhile, is asking the public to help the government attain its vision for a drug-free country by reporting those who are involved in illegal drug activities to these numbers 082-228-1603 and 09331481387.
