17K residents in Davao del Sur hit by 2019 quake receive DSWD 11 shelter aid

DAVAO CITY – A total of 17,124 out of 36,270 beneficiaries in Davao del Sur who lost their houses due to the series of earthquake in 2019 have received aid from Comprehensive Aid to Repair Earthquake Damage (CARED) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

DSWD 11 in a statement on November 27 said they already disbursed ₱288,990,185 from the said number of beneficiaries in five municipalities of the province as of November 22.

DSWD said the program consists of two components – the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) and the Cash-for-Work. The ESA is intended to finance the purchase of materials intended to repair or rebuild their houses, while the Cash-for-Work is for the temporary employment of the homeowners for the actual repair of the damaged houses.

The statement said of the total beneficiaries paid out, 4,297 beneficiaries were categorized as having totally damaged houses that received ₱30,000 and ₱2,970 respectively, while 12,827 beneficiaries were categorized as having partially damaged houses that received ₱10,000 and ₱1,485 respectively.

The agency said CARED is one of the interventions by DSWD to help the survivors of the series of earthquakes last 2019 to recover from such incidents, aside from the provision of relief items and other social protection programs while they are inside the evacuation camps.

It said the DSWD 11 intends to implement the program and finish the same before the end of calendar year 2021. Aside from Davao Region, CARED will also be implemented in Region 12. (By Armando Fenequito Jr.)
