Pinay swimmer makes semis of World Swimming Championships

The eight-man Philippine Junior Swimming team did not win any medals, but they did earn experience and respect from more experienced competitors during the just concluded 8th World Junior Swimming Championship in Lima, Peru.

Michaela Jasmine Mojdeh, nicknamed the 'Water Beast,' became the most stunning Pinoy competitor in the prestigious tournament that featured the world's greatest young swimmers as she advanced to the 16-man semifinals of the girls' 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:03.82.

Mojdeh, 15, is the second Filipino to reach the World Championship semifinals.

The International School Grade 10 student finished 13th in her attempt to reach the finals, but she improved her qualifying time and set a personal best with a time of 1:03.43.

Mojdeh dominated the country's junior competition and set a national record while competing in international tournaments.

Aside from Mojdeh, the team also features Amina Bungubong of the Swimming League Philippines-Behrouz Elite Swimming Team (SLP-BEST), Ruben and Heather White, Mishka Sy, Gian Santos, Alexander Eichler, and Joshua Ang.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
