Poblacion Market Central is Davao’s newest food, retail, and lifestyle destination

DAVAO CITY- Alsons Development and Investment Corporation (Alsons Dev) just made shopping, dining, and entertainment a bit more exciting for Davaoeños following the launch of the Poblacion Market Central (PMC) early this week.

This new commercial center which is located at Madrazo Street is expected to enhance the city’s shopping and dining landscape as this will carry on the best traditions of both the Aldevinco Shopping Center and the Madrazo Fruit Stand.

PMC is Alsons Dev’s most recent commercial development in Davao City, where heritage meets hip. It is an upgraded address with better facilities, modern design and improved tenant mix such as food and establishments for essential services.

“It’s been there for more than 50 years, but we want to upgrade the shopping experience. It was planned as a shopping center for Davaoeños and then it evolved to become a tourist shopping center. It’s very rare that locals, the younger generation, visit aldevinco. We want to give Davaoeños and our guests an upgraded shopping experience,” according to Jolla Amparo Soriaga, the Assistant General Manager-Business Units Group of Alsons Devt and Investment Corporation in a media interview.

Former tenants from the 56-year-old Aldevinco Shopping Center have moved their shops into PMC, seeing that it brings together a refreshing and fulfilling shopping experience, with exciting activities like art events, installations and murals.

“So by upgrading the shopping experience we have to give them of course a new building and then integrate some components to make that shopping experience more experience by having food , having art, and other essentials,” Soriaga said.

Last August 14, PMC opened its food hall, Kukun, (Kusina at Kultura ng Dabaw) that offers value, variety and experience, serving everything from barbecue and lechon meals to seafood bentos, fresh produce, milk tea, coffee and even cocktails.

Outside the food hall, at the atrium arena, a massive mural by Mindanaoan contemporary artist Kublai Milan stands to welcome customers.

Early in 2022, Alsons Dev closed the old shopping center and relocated its tenants to PMC, providing better facilities, marketing support, and the foot traffic necessary for commercial success.

PMC offers export quality products which showcases our Dabawenyo identity, artistry, and craftsmanship.

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte who graced the inauguration recognized Alsons Dev for its contribution in the booming economy of the city.

“What is Davao? Davao will not be the same without Aldevinco. For us Davaoeños, our identity and belongingness are very important,” Duterte said.

He said the establishment of PMC shows the city’s heritage and identity.

“Davao City will not be Davao City if not for how we identify ourselves as Davaoeños and Aldevinco are one of those things that makes us Davaoeños,” Duterte added.

During the launching, a Sarimanok inspired mural was also unveiled made by Milan.

Also present during the launching were Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr., Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, and  Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation President Cecile Dominguez-Yujuico.
