Speaking at the AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing Wednesday (Aug. 17) at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Quibete said all dancers participating in the Indak-Indak are required to wear a facemask as mandated by the City Health Office.
He said the group leaders were already informed to train their performers to do the rehearsals under the heat of the sun with their facemasks.
“Para at least masanay sila, the stamina is tested, and longevity of the routine will be maintained while they are wearing masks,” Quibete said.
The criteria he said includes artistic design, wearability, and it is relevant to the type of presentation, especially the costume of the participants that should match to their facemasks.
Quibete said 10 groups including the school-based categories and open categories will compete in this year’s face-to-face street dancing competition.
He said the route of this year’s Indak-Indak will start at the Veterans Rotunda at C. Bangoy Street, then to Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, towards Roxas Avenue where the first performance will be held.
The performers will then pass along Claro M. Recto street until Bonifacio Street corner Pelayo street junction near Apo View Hotel for the second performance and proceed to the last route at San Pedro Street for the grand showdown at San Pedro Dome (formerly San Pedro Square).
He said for the Davao-school based category, the Sta. Ana National High School is back to defend their title and also competing are Mabini National High School, Bernardo D. Carpio National High School, Doña Carmen Denia National HighSchool, and TESDA Region 11.
“For the first time in the history of Kadayawan sa Davao, TESDA Region 11 has a Nigerian choreographer doing the entire routine,” he said .
For the open category, the performers are Island Garden City of Samal, Davao Occidental, Kidapawan, Pikit North Cotabato, and Sindac Anib from Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, the defending champion for the 2019 Indak-Indak.
