4 ranking NPA members surrender in Davao de Oro

DAVAO CITY– Four ranking members of the communist New People’s Army surrendered to the operating troops of the Philippine Army’s 1001st Infantry Brigade in Davaode Oro on Friday (June 10).

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, 10th ID spokesman identified the surrenderers as Jeg, Kevin, and Denden. They were officers of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 2 (GF2) Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).

Jeg’s wife, Dan-dan, secretary of GF2 also surrendered to the government troops following the former’s surrender.

The identity of the surrenderers are withheld due to security reasons.

The former NPA members revealed to the soldiers that they opted to surrender due to exhaustion brought by the sustained military operations of the brigade.

Tito said the surrenderers also disclosed to them that their state of morale was very low, adding they do not have the will to fight anymore because they were abandoned by Eric Jun Casilao Alias Elian/Wally, who they considered as their top leader.

1001st Brigade launched its sustained and focused military operations in September last year targeting the headquarters of SMRC which resulted to the neutralization of the NPA’s top personalities and Central Committee members Menandro Villanueva alias Bok, Commanding Officer of the NPA’s National Operations Command, Anna Sandra Reyes alias Kaye, and Ezekiel Daguman alias Rye.

The surrenderers are now placed under protective custody of the 1001st Brigade.

The Army’s 1001st Brigade will assist the surrenderers to enroll in the Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
