VIDEO: Digos City's Thompson gets 2 nominations for 46th PBA Season Awards

DAVAO CITY – Digos City, Davao del Sur native, and Barangay Ginebra starting guard Scottie Thompson got two nominations in the forthcoming 46th PBA Season Leo Awards.

Thompson is one of the four contenders for the most valuable player award, alongside Robert Bolick, Mickey Williams, and Calvin Abueva.

He is also nominated for the most improved player award.

Earlier, Thompson landed in sixth place for the top trending searches for male personalities in Google Philippines for 2021.

The former player of Agro Foundation College here ranked even higher than Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who only landed in eighth place.

Thompson recently signed a shoe deal with local sportswear brand World Balance and became the new face of the widely popular shoe brand.

Thompson, a former 2018 PBA Finals most valuable player and a five-time PBA champion, is the second PBA player to be signed by the shoe brand after Philip Cesar.

The World Balance executives said they decided to sign Thompson due to his grit and hard work in the PBA.

"We are thrilled to add him to our WB family," said Barry Chang, president of CHG Global Incorporated.

According to reports, as part of the contract, Thompson is to have his shoe brand, a first for any Mindanaoan professional basketball player.

Thompson feels good these days since he signed a three-year maximum contract extension with Ginebra last March 12, 2021.

The maximum extension means Thompson will get the maximum PBA salary of P420,000 a month.

Thompson is happy with the contract extension. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
